English Language Challenges

Well, it has been a crazy year, with a lot of things happen in my life and studies. Being able to describe all this in a blog is even a success for me. I have to admit that when a start here I saw as an easy subject to do, but with the pass of the sessions, it becomes more challenging.

I'm not a person that uses a lot the English learnings of this class, most of the time I only speak English when I sing a song. But, I listened to a lot of English on Youtube or Netflix, so I always have to understand it. For that, I'm very looking forward to using it more in the future in talking to others

About the blogs I have to admit that for me they are a hate-love experience, in one hand, they improved my writing skills to a new level now having the chance to do it more faster and with a more vocabulary. but, on the other hand, I just can't keep the rhythm of delivering every blog on time, making me in times really hate this blogs.

Finally, What I can say about this subject is that because of the practice I was able to remember most of the contents that I learned in school. But, I still think that this is mostly for the constant practice in writing blogs and making videos. I'm still found weak the theoretical part of the course, even though I can't deny the fact that I learn a lot this semester

Changing the study programme

I'm not a person who likes to complain about this subjects, it's just not my type of approach. Especially considering that criticize subjects that you don't really have a knowledge is very pointless

Considering that, I'm only going to refer to my career curriculum just as a commentary because I do not have the acquirements to do a well-informed opinion. First, I have to say that Journalism in Universidad de Chile has passed through several changes in his curriculum, adding new subjects an updating some of the old contents to the new times.

In terms of contents, I can say that the career has been developing at a good rate. But maybe their biggest issue is the paralyzation of the classes every year due to the decision of the students in go to strike. That's what makes the year very hard to accomplish, not only for having to finish the year later, also for losing content in an attempt of the university to close the year the soon as possible.

In terms of teaching, I can say they are pretty good. Maybe they don't have the patience as a school teacher but they have a lot of experience who reflects how much content you can get in every class. Obviously they are some exceptions, but they are only a few to consider it

Maybe, in conclusion, I would say that this university has his flaws (like any university in the world) but they do a great effort to correct them. Most importantly, I find here a style of teaching that I really like.

Daniel Muñoz: My favorite Artist

At first, I was going to say that I don't have an artist that I love. That's because I consider myself an ignorant in most of the arts, so I never thought that I have enough knowledge to choose one favorite artist in any discipline. But then I realize that you haven't to be an expert to have an opinion and express your interests.

In this case, my favorite artist is the Chilean actor Daniel Muñoz. This iconic Chilean actor has become one of my favorite artists in general. I first saw his work in the acclaimed series "Los 80" like most of the kids from my time, to then saw his other projects as the president Salvador Allende or ( my favorite) as the coach of the Chilean football team of 1962.

What I like in most of the characters that he played is how he achieves to captures the essence of not only the characters, he also manages to recreate to perfection the type of people of those years simple, a little cranky but very polite when it comes to interacting to others. That's why it's my favorite artist

Current Issues: The 5G hysteria

Maybe it's not seem to be a live or death issue but when I explain to you what's the deal with it, it no longer will feel like that anymore.

5G is a new standard in communications that provides cellphone with a more faster transfers in data and also allows a better connection in more devices. To this point all seem to be good things, but the problem is that this type of net requires a more quantity of antennas to repeat the signal, and that's making the people think about mind control and others (like the president of the United States) in espionage.

Althought this two things are fake or half-truths, many people are starting to support this "hysteria" using social networks like Facebook or Youtube to spread like a decease a false statement about 5G, a technology which doesn't have any evidence that supports the accusations showed before.

By the end we can only hope that this type of groups starts disappearing. But sadly this is a phenomena that goes back to the middle age, where the fear of the unknown starts causing this persecution of the new. This remains the same now, and we need to start talking about this issues before this ridiculous speechs strarts to gain more support. That is the only solution to this problem, who is still invisible even when the USA starts to ban huawei form the country for the 5G

Personal Opinion: Centralism and region

For being living almost my whole life in Coquimbo, this is a big problem for me. In fact, I would consider one of my main causes to fights: The centralism.

I always consider my city as a great one, with a lot of potential and capabilities, but nothing of that matters in the big picture because of Santiago it's still the center of attention. For too many years Coquimbo has become in a sort of resort for the other cities and that's unfair, My city has a lot more to offer to this country, we are not just a touristic site. That's, in my opinion, one of the worst consequences of the Centralism in my country, the fact that all the cities are seen as less important than Santiago in every aspect.

For that reason, I think that we should change that, start to give more importance to the other cities of Chile, start to treat them as unique and relevant each other and with that, I do not deny the importance of Santiago I'm just proposing to start to give more attention to other cities in a more equal aspect.

Post 6: Post-graduate Studies

It's ironic, the last year the only thing that I could think about was to do a master after I graduate from journalism, but now, it's hard for me thinking about it. Maybe that was because I saw the master as the only way to succeed in my career, a statement that I don't share anymore, but the possibility it's still there to take the chance.

In that case, I will go for political science because I see as the perfect complement for my profession considering that most of the time we need to cover up stories in all kind of political aspects and explain it to our audience in more easy terms, so basically is essential to know about politics. About where to study, I never look too far, studying in Chile was always the first option but in the university, I still have my doubts.  First, I was very decided to study in the Universidad Catolica but now I'm also interested in the Universidad de Chile, they both offer a great study plan that has what I been looking for political sciences formation. About how I'm planned to study them, I'm interested in an in-person class but part-time because I'm still planning to work after I graduate from journalism, I only hope that both responsibilities don't destroy me in the process.

My future Job: Journalist

This is a tough one. I have always wanted to be a journalist but I have never considered what specifically, maybe in all the formats (radio, television, newspaper and online) but that's not a valid answer. I think of radio, even though many people that work there don't recommend it, in part because it would mean that I don't have to be outdoors every time, having more variety in the workplace. Also, I'm already collaborating for the Radio JGM so the format it's very familiar for me, but on the bad side they told me that the work environment in  JGM it's not like the most important radios in the country (they told me that they are worse) so it would be a big challenge to take.

I would like to travel? of course but with a limit, I'm not very interested in been for months in a country as a permanent special correspondent. Maybe the travel for work isn't my thing at all, but for studies is another thing, I'm considering doing some major in Spain or the United States. Why those countries? Spain because I only hear good thing about their journalism in Chile and the USA obviously because they have been always a referent in journalism.

Experiences at the university: The radio program

I have always liked Journalism, so having to study it has become a challenging but enjoyable experience, one of the moments when I notice this more was when I had to do  half an hour radio show. I never was a radio listener, even though I heard a lot of radio shows but more focus in the music that something else, so this was not only to do a radio program it was also to know a new form of doing Journalism. The preparation with my group took us a week and it was difficult in every moment, we all have been doing our best but we're always late doing it so we have a lot of pressure in the preparation process. Finally it came the day of the program, we were nervous but at the same time anxious for doing it, that day I put my three piece suite for the occasion and I know that sound ridiculous dressing well for a radio program that people only hear but that is the past because the entire transmission was all live-stream through Facebook,  it has more sense looking at it that way.  When it all end all in my group felt joy and relive, maybe we do some mistakes during transmission but we all feell like we do the best program of our lives because it was our first program and that makes all special.

Pampilla 2018:"Juanes"

The people who know me, are very aware of how much I enjoy the Pampilla. One of the best celebrations that my region has and one of the oldest too. The Pampilla has many things to offer like food and shopping stands or the classical fondas, but today i'm  going to write about one in particular: The concerts.

This year one of those concerts has all my attention, the Juanes' concert. That colombian singer that doesn't needs presentation for having one of the most succesful  music carreers in modern pop music.

being there was a great experience, all the public were singing the songs (in my case songs from his firsts album's, I don't really like his new work), he delivered a compilation of all the hits the he had. making a great point of encounter to newer fans and the oldest ones.

the songs that I most enjoy was "Mala Gente" and  "Y es por Tí". The only thing that I didn't enjoy was the fact that he didn't sing "Un Día Normal" and it was very sad because that song is perfect to hear in concerts, anyway, it was still a great concert.

Perú: a country I would like to visit

Having to choose a country to visit I would choose Perú, because it’s ironic that having this country in the frontier I haven´t ever visited, so that’s why I like more the idea to go there soon. Most of what I know from there it’s for the stories from some of my relatives that went there and also some pictures, For what I heard Perú has some beautiful landscapes in most of their territory (including the ancient Machu Picchu) and also delicious and exotic food. But I really don’t know very much about Perú that´s why I want to go there, to know about our neighbors and find out more about they’re culture and what we have in common. The last one will be a great achievement to me when I do this trip, because we always used to see the other south American countrys like different in every aspect so I expect that this trip would make me see them more alike.
